So on the final week before a guy who doesn't believe in Climate Change (yes, he really does think it's a Chinese conspiracy) could legitimately become President of the United States, I thought it would be fitting to blog about Eco Fashion.
Aside from the horrific conditions of a worker, the primary consequence of our hunger for Fast Fashion is our planet. Earth takes all of your shit, no questions asked. I feel like I'm way too involved in this already, as the brief in my course only pointed me in this direction on Monday, but I just can't fathom the idea of buying anything at the moment, it's gone to an extreme.
Did you know that it takes 20,000 litres of water to make a cotton shirt? Yeah, like that one you have hidden in your wardrobe that you haven't worn for a few years. I sound like a massive hypocrite, cos I'm guilty of it too. But like, seriously why do I feel the need to absolutely be the owner of that semi average mesh top I saw in Zara today? Why have I taken the tags off when I know the positioning of the frills on the arms make them look rounded and more of a marshmellow than I already am? WHY

The thing is, we as humans, are waaaaaay too materialistic. Like it just doesn't stop. One big competiton. If you haven't got this seasons fave jumper, then I can sure point you in the direction of girls who have, and have it in multiple colours.
It literally is the way in which we succumb to trends; that weakness, that concept of being pulled by the nose to the next best thing, like sheep being herded by the Shepherds that are these big tushy brands. This new age of being first and one step ahead is the exact reason for the unnecessary damage that is being done to our planet.
I mean, do you really wanna risk swimming in a sea that has two headed sharks? that's two heads that could potentially bite off your leg not just one.
I'm probs being biased, I'm a hardcore WWF donator afterall. Earth Day every year, lights out the whole shabang. But the thing is, it's only my generation that's going to have to deal with the consquences and its that same generation that is buying into the idea of having an over flowing wardrobe and insane amount of shoes. Over 700,000 tonnes of textiles are landfilled in the UK each year, at least 50% of these could be recycled, why are we being crazy people and not recycling this like normal people hm.

Just think before you throw out that piece of clothing;
- is there a pal you could give it to?
- is there someone you could swap it with?
- is there a charity shop you could donate it to?
- could you make it into something else? get creative
- could you hold onto it and reconsider?
Please, for the love of God and this planet, think.
